Sustainable Rural Agriculture

Expanding and enhancing our programs to further support food security and community development involve several strategies:
1.Scaling Up: Considering expanding the reach of our programs to more schools and rural communities, especially those in areas with high levels of food insecurity. This could involve forming partnerships with additional schools, community organizations, or government agencies to replicate our successful model in new locations.
2.Diversifying Offerings: Explore additional agricultural practices and techniques that could complement our existing programs. This might include introducing livestock rearing, agroforestry, or water harvesting methods to enhance food production and resilience to climate variability.
3.Empowering Women: Place a stronger emphasis on empowering rural women through training and resources for agricultural entrepreneurship. Women play a crucial role in food production and household nutrition, so supporting their involvement in farming and small-scale businesses can have significant positive effects on both food security and gender equality.
4.Community Engagement: Strengthen community engagement and participation in program planning and implementation. Involve local leaders, parents, and other stakeholders in decision-making processes to ensure that programs are culturally appropriate and responsive to community needs.
5.Education and Awareness: Expand educational initiatives to raise awareness about nutrition, health, and environmental sustainability. This could include workshops, awareness campaigns, and educational materials that promote healthy eating habits, food safety, and environmental conservation practices.
6.Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track the impact of our programs over time. This will help us identify areas for improvement and make evidence-based decisions about program expansion and resource allocation.
By pursuing these strategies, we can further strengthen our efforts to support food security and community development, making an even greater impact in the lives of children and families in rural areas.

Developing responses to climate change
Climate change is humanity’s defining challenge of the 21st century, with its negative impacts are disproportionately affecting marginalized communities around the world. We’re supporting livelihood resilience and adaptation by and for marginalized communities affected by climate change and engaging strategic partnerships to promote knowledge, expertise, and influence in developing responses.
Through our Kitchen gardening model, women are able to take care of their families and protect their environment as the practice require just a small portion of land behind their kitchen.
“Through our Plavio Uganda Kitchen gardening model, the rural women have the liberty to use their small space behind their kitchen to grow vegetables , fruits and other perishable crops. This is helping a lot in food security issues especially where the greens are harvested and dried for a later time. This is also reducing the rate of domestic violence where women do not frequently ask for money for food stuff from their husbands. In doing this we hope to fight against child malnutrition and our communities will be able to grow more vegetables and other small-scale crops, to help feed their families and generate extra income”.

Goat rearing Project for Rural women groups
Goat rearing can provide part time self-employment without affecting the main occupation for small and marginal farmers. Several large and progressive farmers, businessman and industrialists have adopted commercial goat farming.
The entry of large farmers, who have better access to technical knowledge, resources and market, into this activity would help in realizing the potential of goat enterprise. Goat rearing has been found equally rewarding under both intensive and semi- intensive systems of management.
The present review describes status of goat rearing, knowledge level of goat farming, economics of goat farming.
