Partners creating change
Commonwealth of Learning Canada
The Commonwealth of Learning empowers people through learning that leads to economic growth, social inclusion and environmental conservation. Through GIRLS Inspire Project a Commonwealth of Learning (COL) project , Plavio Uganda is providing schooling and skills development to some of the community’s most vulnerable and hard-to reach girls. This project also leverage the power of open and distance learning (ODL) to end the cycle of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) and to address other barriers that prevent girls’ economic participation.
Wezesha Impact
Wezesha Impact provides business skills training to teen mothers, and school dropouts trained by Plavio Uganda under the youth skilling project, funded by Commonwealth of Learning Canada under Girls Inspire. This addresses gaps and mismatches in technical, cognitive, and soft skills required for self-employment and entrepreneurship. Many youth are ill-prepared when they pursue self-employment or start a business. The lack of experience and/or training in entrepreneurship and management inevitably leads to an extremely high probability of failure. Developing youth skill sets is key to unlocking higher productivity and success in self-employment and entrepreneurship.
The initiative equips youth with the skills to start and grow businesses, find and thrive at jobs, and actively participate civically. By providing a practical learning experience focusing on these critical skills, hence increasing the ability of young business owners to successfully start, manage and grow their enterprises.
